The Zee TV show Saheb Biwi aur Gangster, featuring the story of a pretty girl, Sunaina, who is married to a criminal godfather. A show highlighting the inherent glamour in crime and showing how criminals can lead enjoyable lives while being pursued by authorities has been deemed too controversial to be aired on Indian television. Saheb Biwi aur Gangster was supposed to air on Zee TV but will not be broadcast after it was deemed too violent for TV audiences. The show's financial backers are demanding an explanation for this decision from the channel. A Zee TV spokesperson said, "We had conceptualised the show Saheb Biwi aur Gangster and had made a substantial investment in it. After the first two episodes went on air, we received a lot of negative feedback from viewers about it. We believe that certain creative works are not suitable for Indian culture and sensibilities. Since we are at the beginning of our journey as a channel, we do not want to take any risk and hence we have decided to replace this show with another one. We are giving credit where it is due." The show's producer, Mukesh Shah said, "We had brainstormed the entire show and submitted our conceptual work to Zee TV. The channel rejected it but the producers remained optimistic of releasing the show. They came to us with good feedback about the first two episodes. We did not expect this kind of response from viewers but then again we are positive that they will warm up to the idea of seeing criminals on television." "Saheb Biwi aur Gangster" will play out across three seasons with each one featuring four-five episodes in its entirety. It will be aired on Zee TV every Friday at 8 PM (IST) starting 28 August 2014.
